It’s been over two months since I bought my latest aquarium, and I promised I’d post an update once the tank has time to settle in.

During that time, I decided that the tank’s built-in submersible pump was too loud and too annoying to clean, and removed it.

In its place, I’ve added a small sponge filter and an air pump. That should (hopefully) be enough to keep things moving and the water oxygenated at night.

Meanwhile, the plants have been doing what they do best. Despite receiving no fertilizer or CO2 injection, a jungle has begun to develop in and around the tank.

It looks like the cheap lights I’m using are holding up, as there’s a lovely red tinge developing on some of the plants near the surface.

The reservoir has also become overrun with salvinia minima, so I’ll be removing plenty of that.

There’s not much more to update yet, but soon I’ll need to do a pruning to keep things from becoming too crowded, and I’ll try to get some shots of the clippings’ new homes.

For the moment, have a few more close-ups of the tank interior.
